Week 16 , Selimiye, Turkey

Dear Ethel, Family and Friends,

We left Fethiye on the Monday morning and headed back to Marmarius to join our flotilla group.
We ended up joining a group of 33 other people from England who all know each other and we ended up being 8 boats and 35 people plus a support yach with a crew of 5, 3 of which were skippers on some of the other yachts. We slept on board the boats that night in the marina.

The following morning we had a briefing with our Australian head skipper, Matt from Melbourne and departed on our voyage. Our first day’s sail was only about 5 nautical miles (nm) so we could get use to the boats and practice as a crew. It was perhaps our best days sailing as we had our boat doing 7.5 knots. We are on a 311 Benetau, 31 foot boat. Nice interior with two cabins and saloon berths as well. The first night out we stopped at Kumlu Buku. I have to say at this point that all the places we stopped had a few things in common, beautiful, protected and fairly simular in their facilities, however some had power and water some even had Wifi internet.

The following days we sailed from bay to bay stopping at a new beautiful location each night. The weather has been a bit patchy with beautiful sailing conditions in the morning and 25 knot winds in the afternoon. Only one really uncomfortable day when Louise was really unhappy... so far.

On the way we have been on the look out for a place we might stay for a month or so and found it at the place wher we are now, Selimiye. We will be back in port tomorrow at Orhaniye and spend the last night on the boat and then have to find a place to stay. Will keep you posted.

All the best for now

Ric & Louise

PS: Turkey has banned Youtube so I can’t upload any video... so that will be on hold for a while.
